My year in review claimed victory in a year of blogging; my silence since then hasn’t exactly gotten this year off to a running start textually wise, but I’ve been busy with other things. I just returned from a successful wedding-shower marathon in Minnesota. I wasn’t invited to any of the showers, so I ate BBQ and had fun on the side (while also taking on a significant support role in managing the intensity of the weekend).

Now I’m back and spending hours looking for a job. I’m also reading two new books. The Joke (Milan Kundera) and The Four Loves (C.S. Lewis). There have been quite a bunch of things that have caught my mind from the The Joke (I’m concentrating more heavily on it for the moment), and I’m thankful that my exploratory endeavors into the identity of kitsch led me to his name (which was even more glorified by Briana’s recommendation). He understands the novelist’s mighty task and claims that every word, each finely crafted metaphor, has eternal significance. There’s no better framework with which to write (or read).

“He understands the novelist’s mighty task…”

Are you thinking of getting into novel-writing then? Or just appreciating a novelist who does it right.

yep–i need more lewis, for sure. reading anything else?

why do you live in columbus, ohio?

  3. Ariel: I’d love to get “into novel writing.” It just seems like such a daunting task. Somedays its hard enough to cough up 250 words or so for a decent blog post, but a whole novel? I’d really like to create one at some point; but I sense I need to mature more.

SquirrleyMojo: The two books I mentioned in the post are the only ones on actively in front of my eyes at the moment. I live in Columbus because I moved there for an Internship and then started going to school (I just graduated). The community became home, so I suppose that’s why I’m still there.
