official description:
On Dec. 1, 2006, Heritage Christian Church, 7413 Maxtown Rd., Westerville, will sponsor a World AIDS Day Benefit. The event is free with opportunities provided to give love donations that will benefit Heritage’s Bless Kenya partnership in Africa. There will also be opportunities for community members to partner with local AIDS organizations.Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m.
Musical guest TAIT will headline the event. TAIT (Michael Tait, formerly of DC Talk, Lonnie Chapin, Chad Chapin and Justin York) is described as “one of the most potent and relevant bands on the contemporary scene.” They combine social conscious with melodic hooks and energetic talent for a sound that connects with audiences.
The HCC Bless Kenya initiative supports the Kijabe Hospital AIDS Relief program in Kenya, Africa. Dr. Jon Fielder, from Kijabe Hospital, will share his work with AIDS patients at the event.
This should be a really powerful event–I am excited that our Church is taking a stand to combat AIDS (for all of you fundamentalist flamers out there: yes, we believe Homosexuality is wrong, in case you were wondering; but AIDS and Homosexuality are not necessarily linked, and on top of all that Christ calls for us to have compassion on everyone who is broken. And everyone since Job should know that what you do and what happens to you have no necessary correlation so far as human comprehension defines necessary correlation). See how other Christian Leaders are participating.
Oh yeah, I’m in a band that will be opening for TAIT, and I’m also gracing the stage with a brief dramatic dialogue. I wanted to name our band The New Cartographers, but I’m not sure if that will fly (last I heard we hadn’t settled on an official name, but the deadline to decide already passed–so I guess you’ll have to come and see for yourself what our name will be).
If you live remotely near Columbus, OH you should come to this event. Support a cause that too many Christians shy away from; reach out to the community and make an impact in the world. You’ll also get rocked by Tait. Heck, if you’ve secretly been stalking me this will be a great chance to see me without being seen due to the inevitable large crowds.

Blessed! How exciting, to belong to such a church–great post–the event sounds great too (I’m mapping it even as I type–would you know me in the crowd?).
Be sure to post the results (particularly how much you raise).
You should definitely come; the only way I would know you is if you carried a giant sign emblazened “Squirrley Mojo.”
awesome, dude. Last night, while you guys were doing sound check, Matt and I sat in the audience singing Spinal Tap lyrics. I won’t say that the people behind us heard a few snippets of “Sex Farm” and “Big Bottom,” but I won’t deny it either.
Sounds like a great event. You should really find a way to gauge how many of your stalkers show up…although I guess that would be innately hard to track. Maybe there could be a “private” reception afterwards at $50 a plate.
no.
What were the highlights?
Is it my punishment to never know?
I’m holding you in Limbo (say hi to Plato for me–isn’t that where he is?)…
Highlights? Our Band was right on–really tight, extremely loud; and I even got to wear eyeliner! The drama went smashingly too.
Tait was awesome. I didn’t know what to expect, but they pretty much melted my face (in the words of Jack Black).
The overall event was a success, there were definitely some low-lights (but you didn’t ask for those), but this was the first time our church has ever had an event like this and things will certainly get better with time.
I don’t know how much money they raised; I know they presented a check during the event, but I was backstage at the time getting ready and didn’t hear how much it was for–I’ll ask around and see if I can find out.
you wore eyeliner?
i was just thinking: if that same pic loads up again . . .
aaaaaaaaaaaaaack!
