Through the Eye of a Needle
Over lunch in NYC on Sunday: ‘Look at that!’ ‘What?’ ‘That crazy old driver keeps bumping the Beamer with his van.’ ‘Guess parking spots are hard to find. ‘ ‘I’d be pissed if that was my 745.’ 10 minutes later. ‘Looks like van-guy finally squeezed his car into the spot.’ ‘Too bad for the Beamer, eh?’ ‘Could have managed it sooner if he’d of cut off the bumpers. ‘ ‘Pass the ketchup please.’
An Interview
R. Sherman of Musings from the Hinterland recently responded to several querries from a fellow blogger–it was a self-hosted interview of sorts. The idea is to spread to the interview process along, so in that spirit R. Sherman asked for volunteers to be interviewed. I was interested at once and was graciously accepted. Below are my answers to R.’s carefully crafted questions (BTW: do check our R.’s site, I’ve enjoyed it alot recently). 1. Cubs or White Sox? I’ve been to Sox stadium, but never to Wrigley field. All of my friends have always been Cubs fans, but I’ve always been an American League man. I know the Cubs are more fashionable, but I’m going to go with the White Sox. 2. Must Art always have a...
Recent Pictures: Six O’Clock Vintage Photography

This weekend some photos from my archives will appear, so don’t forget to check back soon (really, you should make it a daily habit). Do you have any ideas for photo-projects I should take on? Let me know in the comments. Here’s a taste of the 5 latest...

To that end a vision statement has been drafted; I’m fortunate enough to be one of those on which the statement is “tested.” I’ve posted the statement below and my response to it: The goal of the Music and Arts ministry of Heritage is: To CREATE inspiring works of beauty that ENGAGE the congregation with God, EXPRESS the God-given gifts and talents of individuals in the church, and ENHANCE the presentation of the message. Now the statement sounds pretty good. While I certainly understand the need for a pithy statement with plenty of action words, sometimes statements like this...
America at a Crossroads
If you have any interest at all in current events I imagine you’ve likely spent a fair amount of time pondering or worrying about events in the Middle East. It isn’t uncommon for me to run into people who have managed to develop incredibly strong ideas about what is wrong and how it ought to be fixed. It seems like everyone these days professes to be some kind of expert about the conflict between “the West” and militant Islam. I’ve spent a bit of time myself looking into the matter and have managed to read a small stack of books exploring the history of Islam. Some of these books have veered into a historiography of sorts and have posited theories of how and why the situation that exists today came into being. I do think it is...
