Mind Mapping
I’ve got some new favorite software. My current job demands lots of creativity and strategic thinking, which is great–I am by nature both creative and strategic. My main problem is that I’m not always the most organized. I wonder sometimes if my greatest ideas have floated away because I forgot to write them down, of if I did write them down the paper got hopelessly lost in an unorganized mass of crumpled papers. Well, I think I may have found a solution: FreeMind. FreeMind is an opensource Mind Map tool written in Java (which means it’s available for all platforms). FreeMind makes its case: So you want to write a completely new metaphysics? Why don’t you use FreeMind? You have a tool at hand that remarkably resembles the...
L’Engle on Revelation
L’Engle herself from Walking on Water, Reflections on Art and Faith, pg 27-28: Of course, because I am a struggling Christian, it’s inevitable that I superimpose my awareness of all that happened in the life of Jesus upon what I’m reading, upon Buber, upon Plato, upon the book of Daniel. But I’m not sure that’s a bad thing. To be truly Christian means to see Christ everywhere, to know him as all in all. I don’t mean to water down my Christianity into a vague kind of universalism, with Buddha and Mohammed all being more or less equal to Jesus–not at all! But neither do I want to tell God (or my friends) where he can and cannot be seen. We human beings far too often tend to codify God, to feel that we know where he is...
14ers Page Launched!
Check out the new page to the site–Colorado’s 14ers. On the new page I’ve given relevant details about each Mountain summitted along with a brief trip report. In addition, I’ve set up Flickr photo sets for each summit. Simply click on the relevant thumbnail to jump over to the photo set. All the pictures from the trips have been uploaded to Flickr. I plan to continue with this format as I gain more summits and more pictures. I’ll still be posting the best shots to the Photography section. Let me know what you think!
RIP Madeleine L’Engle
I just found out that Madeleine L’Engle passed away yesterday at the age of 88. L’Engle is an author I have always been particularly fond of and her writing has challenged me to stretch my mind as well as my imagination. She was a brilliant thinker and writer and was able to communicate her thoughts in a thoughtful warm sort of way that drew you in, like a hot cup of tea by a fire offered on a blustery day by your best friend. She likely would have also been horrified at the use of such a sloppy metaphor. It’s time for me to go to bed, but I didn’t want her passing to go unnoted here. This below from a NY Times article about her: Her deeper thoughts on writing were deliciously mysterious. She believed that experience and knowledge are...
Up to the Mountains
I can smell dinner; it’s almost ready–the garlic is pungent, and the spicy red pepper makes my nose tingle. This day marks 3 weeks of us living in Colorado, and the time that has passed is full. I know an update is long over due, but if you saw what I see out my window you’d probably lock your computer away and head for the hills as fast as you could. We’ve really been blessed so far, I got a job on our second day here! I’m working as a Community Content Manager for an internet start-up company called Disaboom, Inc (disaboom.com). It’s exciting to be working for such a young company and I’ve been learning a lot and contributing as much as I can. I think this is definitely a big step forward for me careerwise, so...
