Up to the Mountains
I can smell dinner; it’s almost ready–the garlic is pungent, and the spicy red pepper makes my nose tingle. This day marks 3 weeks of us living in Colorado, and the time that has passed is full. I know an update is long over due, but if you saw what I see out my window you’d probably lock your computer away and head for the hills as fast as you could.
We’ve really been blessed so far, I got a job on our second day here! I’m working as a Community Content Manager for an internet start-up company called Disaboom, Inc (disaboom.com). It’s exciting to be working for such a young company and I’ve been learning a lot and contributing as much as I can. I think this is definitely a big step forward for me careerwise, so that’s exciting.
I’ve also spent quite a bit of time outdoors. Since Britt and I arrived we’ve camped three times and I’ve climbed 3 mountains over 14,000 feet. We’ve also bought ski boots and season passes that cover 5 ski resorts. As much as I love the summer I can’t wait for the snow! I have tons of pictures to post and am working on an entire new page for the site that will help chronicle my mountaineering exploits.
We really miss our friends back in Ohio and are slowly getting connected here; we’re enjoying the outdoors and are in good shape financially, but the one thing that isn’t in place quite yet is the indispensable community that can come with a good church. We’ve tried a couple, but nothing has proved really compelling as of yet. I think we could really be stretched here. The best lead so far is a Vineyard church, but I anticipate issues in my own mind arising strongly over the appropriate extent of their charisma. Maybe that’s a good thing though, I doubt it’s healthy to ever be too comfortable in one’s personal theology.
I think dinner’s ready. Let me know if you ever come this way…
I’m glad things are well and look forward to the photos.
That last sentence, “Let me know if you ever come this way,” perhaps just a throw-away, will cause you much stress, methinks. For example, just last night, the EMBLOS was saying how its time for us to revisit Rocky Mountain N.P. and perhaps tackle a 14er with the kids.
Party at Tim’s house! Bru-hu-hu-hu-ha-ha!!!!!
Cheers.
Sounds like you guys are settling in. Good luck finding a church. Charismatic isn’t bad, but charismatic with a seatbelt is better.
BTW, I’ve posted some photos from our trip up Grays and Torreys Peak over on the Photography section of the site and have new pictures lined up to post for the next three days.
R.Sherman, you’ll have to get out here quick if you want to do a 14er while summer still reigns. But hey, maybe the kids would rather tackle a mountain using ice-axes and crampons…
But seriously, do let me know next time you come out!
Ariel, seatbelts and airbags are both appreciated. What is it about human nature, skepticism, and the almost dangerous longing for mysticism?
perfect post. i’m truly happy for you both.
