Apple is like a gorgeous girl who gives you an STD

No one can deny that the Macbook Air is an incredibly hot piece of aluminum encased circuitry. Its sensuous curves beckon you with a nearly irresistible force, but if you succumb to its sultry charms you’ll find, albeit several months later, that you have a nasty case of the Digital Clap.
That’s right.
The locked down battery and sealed case (effectively preventing upgrades) is akin to a disease gotten by ignoring reason and self-control and instead acting on sheer desire and impulsive passion.
Practice restraint, practice safe computing—
Don’t buy the Macbook Air.
OK, now i never thought this would happen – Tim (an ordained Mac evangelist) is not wholeheartedly endorsing an Apple product. What’s more surprising than that? i think i (someone who uses a Mac, but also owns, and regularly uses not one, but TWO PCs) might be more excited about this one. i know that it’s already being poo-pooed by a lot of people out there, but i think that’s because they are thinking of portable computers in a different way than i do. If you are looking for a laptop to be your primary machine, then i agree – avoid this one like the plague. But if, instead, you want a laptop that is ready to function as an extension of an office/home desktop, which is largely what i use a laptop for these days, i can’t be so quick to dismiss this one. And i am even thinking i might want one. Stunned?
Shocking that I’m against this one, right? Here’s where the rub comes in for me on your reasoning. You said,

All well and good except for the $1800 + price tag. I can’t believe I’m actually saying this, but if I’d probably seriously consider the Dell XPS 1330 over this. Not too seriously, of course…
